Redstone is a newer community in Calgary’s far northeast, tucked between Métis Trail, Stoney Trail, 60 Street NE and 128 Avenue NE, with Skyview Ranch just to the south. Qualico Communities started planning it in 2008 and launched it in 2010, and it covers about 360 acres. Here is what buyers should know.

Why people move to Redstone

Right on Stoney Trail. Stoney Trail runs along the north edge, and CREB notes that Stoney Trail, Métis Trail and Deerfoot Trail are all within about a five-minute drive. That makes it easy to get to the airport, CrossIron Mills or the rest of the city.

Built for getting outside. The community centres on a “Participark” with permanent outdoor workout equipment, linked to about 3.5 km of pathways. Some homes, called garden-lot homes, have front verandas facing shared green space instead of a street.

More amenities on the way. Qualico’s Redstone Market Square is planned as a 63,000-square-foot shopping area next to multi-family housing and a proposed transit stop, serving Redstone, Skyview Ranch, Cornerstone and Cityscape. A Covenant Health supportive care home is also on the north side of the community.

Getting around by transit. Bus routes 128 and 145 serve Redstone and Skyview Ranch. Earlier plans showed a future CTrain station near 128 Avenue NE, but no date has been confirmed, so treat it as a long-term idea.

Schools in Redstone

  • Public (Calgary Board of Education): Keeler School is the K–6 home school and Dr. Gordon Higgins School is the Grade 7–9 home school. Both are busy, so new students may be sent to overflow schools: West Dover School for K–6 and Bob Edwards School for Grades 7–9, with busing and transportation fees. The CBE’s 2023–24 list showed James Fowler High School for Redstone. A new CBE elementary school for Redstone was announced in February 2025, with no opening date yet.
  • Catholic (Calgary Catholic School District): the CCSD broke ground on a new K–6 school in Redstone in June 2026, with opening estimated for 2028. Until then, use the CCSD school finder to see the designated Catholic schools for your address.

School designations and overflow rules change often in growing communities, so always confirm the designated school for a specific address with the school board before you buy.

What kinds of homes can you buy?

Redstone has one of the widest mixes of homes in the northeast: garden-lot homes, laned homes with rear garages, front-garage homes, zero-lot-line homes, duplexes and street townhomes, plus homes built with secondary-suite options. Qualico’s plan called for about 2,500 single-family homes and almost 1,000 multi-family homes.

Single-family builders have included Pacesetter, Sterling, NuVista, Broadview, Jayman and Trico, with Streetside, Avalon, Jayman Modus and Partners building townhomes and multi-family homes. That means you can compare several builders, and resale homes, in one community.

Tips before you buy in Redstone

  • Plan for school busing. With overflow schools in other parts of the city, ask what your children’s school day would look like until the new schools open.
  • Confirm the suite. If a home has a basement suite, ask whether it is legal and City-approved before you count on rental income.
  • Check what is being built nearby. School sites and the commercial area are still developing, so ask what will go next to the home.
  • Compare your neighbours. Skyview Ranch, Cityscape and Cornerstone are next door, and comparing them can show you the best value for your budget.
