Belmont is one of the newer communities on Calgary’s south edge, and it is changing fast. When buyers ask me about new homes in the south-west, Belmont comes up because it mixes entry-level townhomes with larger family homes and has a lot of public amenities on the way. Here is what I tell buyers, based on public information as of November 2026.

Why people move to Belmont

  • A planned community with choice. Belmont is a 280-acre master-planned community by Anthem, sitting just south of Silverado between 194 and 210 Avenue SW. When it launched, CREB described it as aimed at first-time buyers and people new to Canada, with several Calgary builders and a range of home types.
  • A big new fieldhouse and library. The City of Calgary is building the Belmont Fieldhouse and Library near Creekside Boulevard and 210 Avenue SW: a fieldhouse of about 118,000 sq ft with a full-size artificial turf field, and a 10,000 sq ft library with a children’s area and outdoor learning space. Construction started in 2025, and the City lists completion for Q2 2027.
  • Parks and open views. Anthem lists a large playground with areas for different ages and sensory levels plus four more parks. You also get foothills views, with Spruce Meadows and Sirocco Golf Club nearby.
  • Shopping close by, more coming. Silverado and Shawnessy, just north, have grocery stores and everyday shops. Builder Cedarglen Homes reports that a retail centre of about 145,000 sq ft at 210 Avenue and Sheriff King Street, with a grocery store, pharmacy and childcare, started construction in August 2025 and is scheduled to open in summer 2027.
  • Getting around. Drive in on 210 Avenue SW from Macleod Trail or on Sheriff King Street from Highway 22X, with Stoney Trail close by. The nearest CTrain is the Red Line at Somerset–Bridlewood station, about 5 km away. Early plans mention a future transit centre and LRT station for the area, but there is no confirmed date.

Schools in Belmont

  • Public (Calgary Board of Education): since the 2025–26 school year, Kindergarten to Grade 6 regular program students who live in Belmont are designated to Ethel M. Johnson School on Sackville Drive SW (they used to go to Ron Southern School). Cedarglen’s community guide lists Harold Panabaker School for the middle grades and E.P. Scarlett High School for Grades 10–12.
  • Catholic (Calgary Catholic School District): the same guide lists Holy Child School (K–9) and All Saints High School (Grades 10–12), which is in nearby Legacy.
  • Future schools: Belmont has land set aside for schools, but no funding or construction timeline has been announced.

Because Belmont is new, designations and busing change often. Always confirm your designated school with the school board before you buy.

What kinds of homes can you buy?

  • Townhomes and street towns: the most affordable way into the community, popular with first-time buyers.
  • Laned single-family homes: detached homes with a rear garage or parking pad off the lane.
  • Front-garage single-family homes: larger family homes. Cedarglen Homes, building in Belmont’s final phases, lists front-drive homes starting in the mid-$700,000s; check current builder pricing, as it changes.
  • Resale homes: the first phases are now several years old, so you can also buy resale homes with landscaping and fences already done.

Tips before you buy in Belmont

  • Expect construction. With the fieldhouse, retail centre and final home phases underway, ask what is planned beside the lot you like.
  • Check the school bus plan. The nearest designated schools are outside Belmont, so ask the CBE about busing and fees.
  • Buying new? Read my pre-construction guide for deposits and timelines, and see if you qualify for the first-time buyer GST rebate.
  • Compare the neighbours. Pine Creek is right next door and smaller, while Legacy and Cranston are more established south-end options.
