Short answer: Carrington is a master-planned community in north Calgary around 14 Street NW and 144 Avenue NW, built mainly by Mattamy Homes (since 2015) with Genstar and H3 Developments sections. Carrington is a newer master-planned community on Calgary’s north edge, around 14 Street NW and 144 Avenue NW, with direct access to Stoney Trail. Mattamy Homes started construction in October 2015, and it was the company’s first master-planned community in northwest Calgary. Other developers, including Genstar near Centre Street and H3 Developments in South Carrington, are building parts of the area too, so “Carrington” can mean a few slightly different neighbourhoods. Here is what buyers should know.
Why people move to Carrington
Parks first. Mattamy built Greenway Park at the community entrance before most homes were finished. It is a 0.9-hectare park with play structures, a skateboard area, a soccer green, a half basketball court, public art and a plaza. The original plan set aside about 19 acres of parks, 19 acres of naturalized storm ponds and more than 10 acres of environmental reserve, and it connects to Calgary’s 138-km Rotary/Mattamy Greenway pathway.
Quick access north and south. Stoney Trail, Centre Street and 14 Street NW are the main routes. Stoney Trail makes it easy to reach the airport, Deerfoot Trail and the west side of the city, and Centre Street heads straight toward downtown.
Room to grow. Carrington is part of the City’s Keystone Hills area plan, which includes an employment and commercial centre around a future CTrain station on the Centre Street corridor. The timing of that line has not been confirmed, so think of it as a long-term plan, not a reason to buy today.
Wider lots. Mattamy’s designs use wider lots, which allow larger home footprints and deeper front porches than you see in some newer communities.
Schools in Carrington
- Public (Calgary Board of Education): starting in the 2026–27 school year, the CBE designates Alex Munro School for Kindergarten to Grade 6 and Sir John A. Macdonald School for Grades 7–9. The CBE’s 2023–24 high school list showed James Fowler High School for Carrington.
- Catholic (Calgary Catholic School District): check the CCSD school finder for the designated Catholic schools for your address.
Carrington’s school designations changed recently and new schools are planned for the area, so always confirm the designated school for a specific address with the school board before you buy.
What kinds of homes can you buy?
Carrington offers condos, townhomes, duplexes and single-family detached homes, including front-drive garage homes. Mattamy has built most of the homes so far, and the Genstar section added more single-family and multi-family homes, with a larger multi-family phase planned near Centre Street. Because the community started in 2015, you can choose between resale homes that are only a few years old and brand-new builds.
Buying new? Ask the builder about the possession date, what is included in the price, and which rebates you may qualify for. I can compare builders side by side so you know what you are really getting.
Tips before you buy in Carrington
- Know which part of Carrington you are in. Different developers mean different builders, home styles and architectural rules.
- Check what is planned nearby. Commercial areas and multi-family sites are still being built, so ask what will go next to the home.
- Drive the commute. Try Centre Street and 14 Street NW on a weekday morning before you decide.
- Compare with neighbours. Livingston is right across Centre Street, and comparing both can show you where the better value is for your budget. Open to the south side of the city too? See my Pine Creek guide. In the north-west, compare Evanston and Sage Hill.

Frequently asked questions
Who builds homes in Carrington?
Mattamy Homes is the main developer and started construction in October 2015. Genstar and H3 Developments develop other parts of Carrington, so builders and rules differ by section.
What schools serve Carrington?
For 2026–27 the CBE designates Alex Munro School (K–6) and Sir John A. Macdonald School (Grades 7–9). Check the CBE and Calgary Catholic school finders for the exact address, as designations change.
