Quick answer: Martindale is an established north-east Calgary community between 64 and 80 Avenue NE, from Métis Trail to Falconridge Boulevard. It has its own Blue Line CTrain station, two CBE schools (Manmeet Singh Bhullar School and Crossing Park School), cricket grounds and the Genesis Centre close by. Homes are mostly detached and among the more affordable in the city.

Martindale is a community I am in almost every week. Families like it because it has a train station, schools, places of worship and cricket grounds within a few minutes of home, at prices that are easier on the budget than many newer areas. Martindale was annexed into Calgary in 1961 and became a community in 1983, so the streets are mature and the parks are finished. The City’s 2012 census counted 13,674 residents in 3,912 homes. Here is what I tell buyers, based on public information as of November 2026.

Why people move to Martindale

  • The CTrain in the community. Martindale station on the Blue Line opened in August 2012, so you can ride straight downtown. For drivers, Métis Trail and Deerfoot Trail are close, and the airport is less than 15 minutes away.
  • A diverse, close-knit community. More than half of residents (55% in 2021) were born outside Canada. The Dashmesh Cultural Centre and a Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints are in the area, and the Al-Hedaya Islamic Centre is nearby.
  • Cricket and recreation. Martindale has two cricket grounds: Martindale Cricket Grounds on the west side (regulation pitch, bleachers, bookable) and Martha Haven Cricket Grounds on the north side. The Genesis Centre serves the whole north-east with two indoor field houses, a gym, the Saddletowne YMCA (pool and climbing wall) and a public library. Prairie Winds Park, just south, adds a spray park, lazy river, tennis courts and more cricket pitches.
  • Neighbourhood extras. There is an off-leash dog park, and the community association runs a winter skating rink. One honest drawback: Martindale is not yet linked to the City’s main pathway network, and the City’s Ward 5 Connections project is working on that.

Schools in Martindale

  • Public (Calgary Board of Education): Manmeet Singh Bhullar School opened in August 2017 on Martindale Boulevard NE for Kindergarten to Grade 5. It is named after the late Alberta MLA Manmeet Singh Bhullar. Crossing Park School teaches Kindergarten to Grade 9, but it is busy: since 2023–24, Grade 7 spots are filled by lottery, and students who are not selected go to Clarence Sansom School in Pineridge as the overflow school. Nelson Mandela High School also serves the area.
  • French-language: École La Mosaïque, a French-language elementary school (K–6), is in Martindale.
  • Catholic (Calgary Catholic School District): use the CCSD school finder to see which Catholic schools serve a specific address.

North-east schools are full and designations change. Always confirm your designated school and busing with the school board before you buy.

What kinds of homes can you buy?

  • Detached homes: by far the most common. Condo and apartment buildings make up only about 3% of the buildings here, and most homes are owner-occupied.
  • Starter family homes: Avenue Calgary’s 2026 neighbourhood profile describes Martindale as affordable and a good fit for starter family homes, with an average detached house around $500,000. Prices change, so ask me for current sales on the street you like.
  • Homes with basement suites: many buyers want a suite for parents or rental income. Check that it is legal before you count on it.

Tips before you buy in Martindale

  • Check the suite. My legal basement suite guide shows how to look a home up on the City’s suite registry.
  • Plan for the Grade 7 lottery. If your child will be in middle school soon, ask the CBE how the Crossing Park lottery and the Clarence Sansom overflow would apply to you.
  • Inspect the big-ticket items. Most homes here are from the 1980s and later, so ask about the age of the roof, furnace, windows and hot water tank, and get a full home inspection.
  • Walk to the station. If you will ride the CTrain, time the walk from the house, and check evening street parking.
  • Compare the neighbours. Taradale is right next door with similar homes, Saddle Ridge has Saddletowne station and shopping, and Cityscape offers newer builds.
