Falconridge is one of the communities I get asked about most by first-time buyers and investors in the north-east. The land was annexed into Calgary in 1961, and the community itself was established in 1979, so the streets are settled and the schools and services are already in place. The City’s 2012 census counted 10,381 residents in 3,478 homes, which makes it one of the larger established communities in the area. Here is what I tell buyers, based on public information as of November 2026.
Why people move to Falconridge
- A central spot in the north-east. Falconridge sits between McKnight Boulevard and 64 Avenue NE. Castleridge is to the west, Coral Springs is across 68 Street to the east, and Taradale and Martindale are across 64 Avenue to the north, so family, temples, shopping and work in the north-east are all close.
- Transit to downtown. Calgary Transit buses connect Falconridge with McKnight–Westwinds station on the Blue Line, which opened in 2007 and has a 949-stall park and ride.
- A real community centre. The Falconridge/Castleridge Community Association at 95 Falshire Drive NE has two halls, an outdoor skating rink, a hockey rink, outdoor basketball and a free FITPARK that opened in 2022. It also offers preschool, before- and after-school care, a seniors program, fitness programs and ESL classes twice a week, and Northeast Family Connections runs family services from the centre.
- Schools close to home. Elementary, junior high and high schools from both school boards are in or right beside the community (see below), which is a big plus for families with kids of different ages.
- Strong rental demand. At the time of the 2012 census, about a third of homes in Falconridge were rented, which tells investors there is a steady tenant pool here.
Schools in Falconridge
- Public (Calgary Board of Education): Falconridge School, Grant MacEwan School and O. S. Geiger School are elementary schools in the community, and Terry Fox School (Grades 7–9) is right next door to the Falconridge community centre.
- Catholic (Calgary Catholic School District): St. John XXIII School (Kindergarten to Grade 9) is at 1420 Falconridge Drive NE, and Bishop McNally High School (Grades 10–12) is on Falconridge Boulevard NE.
Having a school nearby does not always mean it is your designated school, and designations change. Always confirm your designated school and busing with the school board before you buy.
What kinds of homes can you buy?
- Established detached homes: most homes were built from the late 1970s onward, on settled streets. They are a common first step into a detached home in the north-east.
- Townhouses and condos: a smaller share of the community (about 6.5% of buildings in the census data) is condominium or apartment, which can be an affordable way to start.
- Homes with basement suites: popular with investors and with families who want a mortgage helper or space for parents. Check that a suite is legal before you count on the rent.

Tips before you buy in Falconridge
- Budget for updates. Many homes are 40 years old or more. Ask about the age of the roof, furnace, hot water tank, windows and electrical panel, and get a full home inspection. For older homes I also suggest asking your inspector about a sewer line camera check.
- Read the condo documents. In a townhouse or condo complex, review the bylaws, the reserve fund study, recent board minutes and the monthly fee before your conditions come off.
- Check the suite. My legal basement suite guide shows how to look a home up on the City’s suite registry.
- Know your closing costs. My Alberta closing costs guide lists every fee to budget for, and my mortgage basics guide explains the stress test.
- Compare the neighbours. Coral Springs has a residents’ lake, Taradale and Martindale are just north, and Saddle Ridge has Saddletowne station and shopping.
